Hating Evil is a thrash metal band out of Brazil with one album to date, Rotten Inside (2014). The sound of Hating Evil is extremely easy to describe. Imagine that it is 1986 and Slayer is preparing to go into the recording studio. While writing songs the band members have a religious epiphany and they all radically convert to Christianity. If this had occurred then perhaps the ensuing album would have sounded just like Rotten Inside.
It is quite apparent that the members of Hating Evil have heard the music of Slayer. Rotten Inside is an amazing 1980’s inspired thrash metal album. The band is not shy about wearing their influences heavily upon their collective sleeves and that’s okay. Most bands are not called to reinvent the wheel. Hating Evil have written and recorded seven ultra fast thrash metal songs. Instead of focusing on the dark things of this world, the band has opted to write metal songs that glorify God.
Christian metal is not a new thing. I do believe that it is fair to say that the Christian metal underground is alive and well. But well crafted and well played Christian thrash metal is so scarce of late. Hating Evil is an exciting thrash band that I want to hear a lot more from in the future. It should be noted that Rotten Inside was initially released as a seven song release in 2014. In 2016 it was remastered and rereleased with several demos included.
